Cookies & browser storage

Last updated: 12 October 2026. This page describes storage used by this application. Cookies are small values sent to this site with requests; localStorage stays in your browser and is read by the application.

Essential storage

Language preference

howcooked.language remembers your selected language in localStorage until you clear site data. It is saved only when you use the language switch.

howcooked_storage_v1 is a first-party cookie that remembers your storage choice for 180 days. It is set when you choose an option, uses SameSite=Lax, and is marked Secure on HTTPS.

cooked-token:<report-id> in localStorage stores the management key for a report you create. It lets you publish or delete that report. It is removed when you delete the report through this browser; otherwise it remains until browser storage is cleared. Shared reports expire on the server after 30 days, but their local keys are not automatically cleared. Clearing a key may prevent you from managing its report.

Optional saved records

With your permission, howcooked.higher-lower.best.players and howcooked.higher-lower.best.reviews in localStorage remember your best scores. They remain until you clear browser storage or choose “Necessary only”. Without permission, new records are kept only in the current page’s memory. The game remains available.

Change your choice

Use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. “Necessary only” stops optional reads and writes and removes saved game records from this browser. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings. After the preference cookie expires, we ask again before using optional storage.

External services

The application uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure site usage. Game images load from Steam’s image servers, which receive normal image requests, including your IP address. Hosting and network providers may process requests for delivery and security. This notice covers browser storage and is not a complete privacy policy for Steam data or server-side processing.
